Actor Arjun Rampal takes on a chilling role in the forthcoming espionage thriller Dhurandhar, portraying a ruthless ISI officer. The film's trailer, unveiled on Tuesday, made waves due to its shocking opening scene that showcases a graphic torture sequence executed by Arjun’s character. This moment has ignited varied reactions online, from horror to awe.
The trailer begins with Arjun inflicting gruesome torture on a captive using hooks, delivering a painful and disturbing visual. Viewers are split, with some finding the imagery excessively violent, while others commend director Aditya Dhar for his brave depiction of stark realism often absent in mainstream Indian cinema.
During the Mumbai trailer event, when questioned about his initial response to the scene, Arjun opted not to delve into specifics, stating he finds such discussions uninteresting and prefers to highlight the film's essence. He praised Aditya Dhar, marking the day as significant due to the director's commitment to crafting a distinctive movie.
In a candid moment at the event, Arjun inadvertently revealed the name of Ranveer Singh’s character. Despite the trailer keeping the lead’s identity a mystery, he noted that he had never met Ranveer during the two-year filming period, instead mentioning “Hamza” as the character’s name without recognizing the slip.
Drawing inspiration from the Lyari Gang Wars in Pakistan, Dhurandhar delves into covert operations tied to Indian intelligence. The film boasts a stellar cast, including Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi, with several characters based on real-life figures.
The release date for the film is set for December 5.
