Arrest Made in Lambton College Shooting Incident

Post by : Shweta

Authorities in Sarnia have announced the capture of a suspect in connection with the deadly shooting at Lambton College, marking the end of a more than two-week manhunt. On Monday, police apprehended 24-year-old Kyaw “Chin” Doe during a well-coordinated operation.

The Sarnia Police Service revealed that officers traced the suspect to a home in London. With assistance from the London Police Service's Emergency Response Unit, they secured the area. The suspect surrendered peacefully and was arrested at the scene.

Doe faces multiple serious charges, including second-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder, as well as unlawful possession of a firearm. He remains in custody as he awaits a bail hearing amid ongoing legal proceedings.

The charges relate to a shooting incident that took place early on April 10 at the Lions Den Pub on the Lambton College campus. Reports indicate that the incident stemmed from a confrontation between two groups, resulting in the death of 20-year-old Dane Nisbet from Sarnia. Two other individuals were injured but survived.

Police extended their condolences to the victim’s family and the wider community. Police Chief Derek Davis remarked on the significant emotional toll on those close to Nisbet and highlighted that the arrest might provide some comfort as the investigation proceeds.

This case has already led to several arrests, with three individuals previously charged, including one facing similar second-degree murder charges and others identified as accessories.

Authorities had been actively pursuing Doe, canvassing areas linked to him in London. A reward for information leading to his capture had been raised to $50,000, underscoring the urgency surrounding this case.

This arrest is a notable development as the investigation unfolds, but police affirm that ongoing legal actions will shape the case’s future. The incident has raised significant concerns regarding safety on educational campuses within the community.
