Road to Dubai: Artem Lobov to Face Zubaira Tukhugov in October Showdown

Post by : Saif Al-Najjar

Dubai will once again take center stage in the world of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). On October 3, Irish veteran fighter Artem Lobov will face Russian competitor Zubaira Tukhugov in a 165-pound catchweight bout. The fight will headline the PFL Champions Series: Road to Dubai — The Rematch at the Coca-Cola Arena.

This event is part of the Professional Fighters League’s (PFL) ongoing partnership with the Dubai Sports Council and the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism. Together, they are working to position Dubai as one of the new global homes for combat sports.

Dubai’s Growing Role in MMA

Since the official launch of the “Road to Dubai” campaign in November 2024, the UAE has hosted several high-profile PFL events. These shows have attracted fighters and fans from all over the world, highlighting the region’s ambition to become a hub for elite sports.

Dubai already has a reputation for hosting world-class events in football, tennis, golf, and Formula 1. Now, with MMA being one of the fastest-growing sports worldwide, the city is adding another powerful chapter to its sporting story.

“PFL Champions Series on October 3 in Dubai will be one of the biggest nights in PFL history,” said PFL CEO John Martin. He explained that the card will feature two PFL World Titles, showcasing four of the league’s best athletes. Martin added that this event is not just another fight night, but a global showcase of talent, drama, and international competition.

The Fighters: Lobov vs. Tukhugov

The spotlight will be on Artem Lobov, a fighter known for his toughness and strong fan following. Lobov, originally from Russia but representing Ireland, is remembered for his close connection to former UFC champion Conor McGregor. Over his career, Lobov has built a reputation as a fearless competitor who never backs down from a challenge.

On the other side of the cage is Zubaira Tukhugov, a powerful Russian fighter with sharp striking skills and a strong ground game. Tukhugov, part of the same fight camp as UFC star Khabib Nurmagomedov, brings intensity and discipline to every match. His style is built on speed, wrestling strength, and determination to prove himself against world-class opponents.

Fans are excited because this fight is not only a contest between two well-known names but also a clash of fighting styles and national pride.

Why This Event Matters

The fight between Lobov and Tukhugov is being billed as one of the most anticipated matchups in the series. But more than that, it represents the growth of MMA in the Middle East. Just a few years ago, Dubai was mainly a host for boxing events and traditional sports. Today, it is quickly being recognized as a global hotspot for MMA, attracting fighters, fans, and promoters from across the globe.

The PFL’s decision to host such a major fight card in Dubai shows confidence in the city’s ability to deliver world-class sporting entertainment. For the UAE, this means greater visibility, tourism growth, and the chance to inspire a new generation of athletes.

What Fans Can Expect

The October 3 event will not only feature Lobov vs. Tukhugov, but also two PFL World Title fights. The full card is expected to deliver high drama, intense action, and unforgettable moments. Fans attending at the Coca-Cola Arena will witness live history, while millions more will watch on screens worldwide.

The PFL has promised a night that mixes sport with spectacle — an evening where fighters’ personal stories, national pride, and world titles collide inside the cage.
