Japan's Asahi Group is dedicated to reinstating its nationwide logistics by February after a significant cyberattack in late September led to widespread operational disruptions.
The renowned beverage enterprise, famous for its Super Dry beer, confirmed an attack on September 29 that impacted critical functions such as order processing, shipping, and customer service. Numerous restaurants, bars, and retail outlets across Japan encountered shortages in Asahi products during this period, underscoring the extensive ramifications of the incident.
Asahi disclosed that sensitive information belonging to 1.52 million customers may have been affected, alongside data from approximately 114,000 business contacts and 275,000 current and former employees and their families. The company noted that none of this information has thus far appeared online.
Production at six domestic facilities restarted within a week following the incident, yet the repercussions were evident throughout October, with sales in its primary beverage and food sectors declining by 10% to 40% compared to the same month last year.
This cyberattack, attributed to the ransomware collective Qilin in early October, has also compelled the firm to postpone its financial reporting timelines. Full-year results for the period concluding December 31, 2025, will be disclosed over 50 days after the fiscal year ends, while third-quarter earnings, initially scheduled for November 12, will now be released over 45 days late.
Despite these challenges, Asahi asserts it is steadily progressing in its recovery efforts and is committed to stabilizing supply to mitigate further shortages within the domestic market.
