AstraZeneca Shares Surge to Record Level Amid Strong Performance and U.S. Agreement

AstraZeneca Shares Surge to Record Level Amid Strong Performance and U.S. Agreement

Post by : Bianca Haleem

AstraZeneca's stock soared to an unprecedented level on Tuesday, eclipsing its previous peak from September 2024 and establishing itself as the most valuable UK-listed company. This surge came after robust earnings and a significant policy update in the U.S.

As of 0832 GMT, shares rose by 2.5%, reaching 134.6 pounds, now valuing the company at almost 210 billion pounds ($282 billion). This increase contributed to a broader rise in the FTSE index, which climbed 1.1%, driven by unexpectedly strong UK labor market data and hints at a potential Bank of England rate cut in the upcoming month.

The firm’s impressive performance is attributed to a quarterly earnings report that surpassed forecasts alongside a U.S. drug-pricing deal established in October. This agreement has alleviated concerns about regulatory challenges, with over 40% of the company’s total sales coming from the U.S. market.

Analysts note that the combination of solid financial results and diminished policy risks has bolstered investor confidence, creating significant upward momentum in the stock. The record-high performance also signals growing positivity about the UK pharmaceutical industry in the context of rising global demand for advanced treatments.
