The Atlanta Falcons earned a dramatic 29-28 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after Zane Gonzalez kicked a 43-yard field goal as time ran out. The Falcons were down by 14 points in the fourth quarter but staged a strong comeback. With two minutes left, Atlanta got the ball at their own 30-yard line after forcing a Tampa Bay punt. On a crucial fourth-and-14 play, Kirk Cousins connected with David Sills V for a 21-yard gain, moving the ball to Tampa Bay’s 36-yard line. A few plays later, Gonzalez scored the winning kick, completing the comeback.
Kirk Cousins had an impressive night, completing 30 of 44 passes for 373 yards and three touchdowns. Kyle Pitts Sr. delivered a standout performance with 166 yards and three touchdowns on 11 catches. Despite this win, the Falcons struggled with discipline, committing a franchise-record 19 penalties for 125 yards. However, they still managed to secure their fifth victory of the season after losing seven of their last eight games.
For Tampa Bay, quarterback Baker Mayfield threw for 277 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. The Buccaneers, now 7-7, have dropped five of their last six games and lost an important NFC South matchup. This defeat pushes them half a game behind the Carolina Panthers in the division standings, putting their playoff hopes under pressure.
Tampa Bay took the lead early with a 1-yard scoring run from Sean Tucker, and both teams exchanged scores through the first half. Cousins found Pitts for two early touchdowns, while Tampa Bay relied on Chase McLaughlin’s field goals to keep the game close. The Buccaneers led 20-14 in the third quarter after a long 90-yard drive, and then extended the lead to 28-14 early in the fourth following a fumble recovery and a Chris Godwin touchdown.
Atlanta began their comeback with a 6-yard rushing touchdown from Bijan Robinson. Dee Alford later intercepted Mayfield, setting up another Falcons touchdown as Pitts scored his third of the night. Both two-point conversions failed, leaving Tampa Bay ahead 28-26 until the final seconds.
Atlanta’s final drive, sparked by Cousins and sealed by Gonzalez, completed one of the team’s most exciting wins of the season. The Falcons’ resilience, strong late-game execution and Pitts’ three-touchdown performance played key roles in their narrow but emotional victory over their NFC South rivals, keeping fans hopeful for the remaining games.
