AWS and Google Cloud Collaborate on Enhanced Multicloud Connectivity

Post by : Bianca Haleem

In a significant advancement for cloud infrastructure, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud revealed a groundbreaking multicloud networking service on Sunday. This initiative enables companies to set up high-speed private links between the two platforms in just minutes—a task that previously required weeks.

This collaboration comes in the wake of an AWS outage on October 20 that disrupted numerous websites around the globe, impacting popular applications such as Snapchat and Reddit. Analysts suggest that this incident led to losses for U.S. firms ranging between $500 million and $650 million.

The newly launched service integrates AWS' Interconnect with Google Cloud's Cross-Cloud Interconnect, with the aim of facilitating seamless data transfers and minimizing downtime risks. Early adopters like Salesforce are already trying out the service to enhance application performance and ensure continuous connectivity.

As reliance on cloud computing and AI applications grows, tech giants are heavily investing to expand their infrastructure. AWS continues to lead as the largest cloud provider, reporting a substantial $33 billion in revenue for the third quarter, which is over double that of Google Cloud's $15.16 billion. This new multi-cloud initiative exemplifies a growing trend of collaboration within the tech industry to satisfy the increasing demand for fast, dependable, and adaptable cloud solutions.
