In line with the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Ibrahim bin Hassan Al Hawaj, Minister of Works, took part in National Tree Week. He personally planted a tree at the Ministry of Works headquarters in Manama, demonstrating his commitment to Bahrain’s environmental goals.
Supporting Bahrain’s Afforestation Plan
The tree planting is part of the national afforestation plan, which aims to plant 3.6 million trees by 2035. This initiative is a key component of Bahrain’s broader environmental strategy. By increasing green spaces, the plan contributes to cleaner air, enhanced biodiversity, and the overall well-being of communities.
Steps Towards Carbon Neutrality
Bahrain has set an ambitious goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060. National Tree Week plays an important role in this vision by promoting tree planting and sustainable environmental practices. Every tree planted helps absorb carbon dioxide, supporting the country’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Encouraging Public Participation
National Tree Week also encourages citizens, organizations, and government agencies to take part in environmental activities. Through participation in tree planting and other green initiatives, the public contributes to the national afforestation plan and becomes active partners in protecting the environment.
Long-Term Environmental Benefits
Planting trees provides multiple long-term benefits, including improving air quality, reducing soil erosion, and creating natural habitats for wildlife. These efforts also enhance urban landscapes, making cities like Manama greener and more sustainable for future generations.
Aligning with National Vision
This initiative reflects Bahrain’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental protection. The afforestation plan aligns with the country’s Vision 2035, which emphasizes eco-friendly growth, climate action, and a balance between urban development and nature conservation.
Building Awareness and Commitment
Through events like National Tree Week, the government seeks to raise awareness about environmental issues and inspire collective responsibility. Officials, citizens, and organizations are encouraged to take part, fostering a culture of environmental stewardship across the country.
A Green Future for Bahrain
By participating in National Tree Week, Minister Ibrahim bin Hassan Al Hawaj highlighted the importance of individual and collective action in achieving Bahrain’s environmental goals. The ongoing afforestation efforts and the vision for carbon neutrality underscore the kingdom’s dedication to a sustainable and greener future.
