Bald Eagles Rescued From Power Line in Surrey

Post by : Shweta

In Surrey, two bald eagles caught in a power line during a territorial dispute have been safely rescued. The birds attracted significant attention from onlookers before emergency services intervened to assist.

According to the Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society, these eagles likely got entangled during aggressive nesting behavior. This period of the year sees them fiercely defending their young and nests, which can sometimes lead to precarious situations.

Images captured at the scene depicted the two majestic birds precariously hanging upside down from the power line, their legs intertwined while they confronted each other. The risks involved were amplified by the presence of live electrical cables.

Upon receiving alerts, BC Hydro crews quickly arrived and temporarily cut off power to the area to facilitate a safe rescue operation. Surrey Fire Services also dispatched personnel with a ladder truck to help reach the eagles.

A member of the wildlife rehabilitation team, equipped with expertise, was lifted in a bucket by the firefighters. The operation required meticulous handling of the wires, with one trained individual assisting in delicately disentangling the birds while wearing protective gear. The rescue emphasized the need for patience and skill to avoid causing harm to the animals.

After untangling their talons, both eagles were freed, promptly soaring off in different directions. Wildlife officials confirmed the birds appeared uninjured, marking a triumphant and unusual rescue effort.

Experts highlighted that incidents like these underscore the difficulty wildlife encounters in urban settings, particularly during breeding periods. Fortunately, this case indicates the best possible resolution, allowing the eagles to return safely to their natural environment.
