The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has declared its intention to collaborate with the International Cricket Council (ICC) to tackle security issues as the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 approaches. This decision follows the board's earlier hesitation to send its team to India.
On Wednesday, the BCB issued a statement confirming its commitment to working alongside tournament organizers to facilitate Bangladesh’s participation. “The ICC has guaranteed that our concerns will be incorporated into the comprehensive security arrangements for the event,” the statement elaborated.
A virtual discussion took place on Tuesday between the governing body and BCB after Bangladesh expressed a desire to change the venue for its matches, with all group games initially set in India. This move came on the heels of a controversy involving prominent fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman, who was sidelined from his IPL team based on directives from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
In light of this incident, Bangladesh’s interim government also prohibited IPL broadcasts due to public outrage regarding the player's exclusion.
The BCB stressed that claims of an ultimatum from the ICC are “utterly false” and do not mirror any official dialogue. The board remains focused on professionally resolving the matter to secure the team’s participation.
Given the recent tensions between Bangladesh and India, including social upheaval and diplomatic challenges, concerns regarding the team’s safety during the tournament have intensified.
