Barcelona were involved in a dramatic Champions League clash on Wednesday, settling for a 3-3 draw away at Club Brugge. The hosts struck early at Jan Breydel Stadium when Nicolo Tresoldi finished a move created by Brugge winger Carlos Forbs, whose pace repeatedly tested Barcelona’s high defensive line.
Barca responded swiftly when Ferran Torres converted after a clever build-up involving Fermin Lopez. Brugge pressed on and Forbs found the net again for the home side before a Tzolis own goal levelled the contest once more. Teenager Lamine Yamal, returning to form after quieter outings, was influential — creating chances and assisting in Barcelona’s late equaliser.
Defensive frailties were apparent for the visitors throughout. Jules Kounde and Eric Garcia both struck the woodwork, underlining Barca’s attacking threat but also their vulnerability at the back. Coach Hansi Flick accepted the problems while reaffirming the club’s commitment to its attacking principles, stressing that the team will continue to play with a high defensive line.
Yamal combined neatly with Fermin Lopez to produce a fine finish, flicking the ball past goalkeeper Nordin Jackers and into the bottom corner. Jackers later denied another effort aimed at the top corner, but Yamal’s display stood out and drew praise from supporters and teammates.
The finale was tense after Romeo Vermant appeared to tap in an empty-net winner, only for VAR to rule the goal out for a foul on goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny. Earlier in the match, a possible penalty for Forbs was overturned following a VAR review, removing another chance for Brugge to seize control.
Frenkie de Jong said the team had expected to win and conceded that letting in three goals made victory difficult, while Eric Garcia noted Brugge had created significant danger with limited opportunities. The draw keeps Barcelona alive in the group but highlights defensive issues and the impact of injuries; Flick’s side will need tactical tweaks and resilience to sustain their European ambitions.
