Australian snowboarder Belle Brockhoff has declared her retirement from competitive snowboarding, just weeks prior to the 2026 Winter Olympics, due to a series of serious injuries.
At 33, the three-time Olympian was gearing up for the Milan-Cortina Winter Games in February, but persistent health issues compelled her to exit the sport.
Brockhoff narrowly missed a medal with a fourth-place finish in snowboard cross at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. However, her recent injury battles proved insurmountable.
In late 2024, she faced a severe wrist fracture. Conditions worsened in March last year after a significant crash at a World Cup race in Georgia resulted in a fractured vertebra, requiring her to be airlifted to hospital for surgery involving pins and rods in her back.
On Instagram, Brockhoff confirmed her decision, noting she had been rehabilitating a compound wrist fracture alongside a fractured L1 vertebra.
Despite dedicating months to intense rehab and training, she acknowledged having reached her physical limits.
“With over 20 years in snowboarding, I know in my heart it’s time to step away from competitive racing,” she expressed.
Brockhoff’s retirement signifies the end of a remarkable Olympic journey and an important moment for Australian snowboarding.
