United States: For Black Friday 2025, U.S. consumers spent an impressive $8.6 billion online, with many preferring to shop from home instead of venturing out to stores. Adobe Analytics noted a 9.4 percent increase in online sales by 6:30 pm ET compared to the previous year, underscoring the shift towards digital holiday shopping. The analytics firm’s data, which monitors over 1 trillion visits to U.S. retail websites, illustrates how shoppers are increasingly using their laptops and smartphones to find the best deals.
Contrary to expectations of bustling foot traffic post-Thanksgiving, in-store shopping remained quiet as consumers exercised caution amid inflation worries, trade policy uncertainties, and a sluggish labor market. Nonetheless, Adobe estimates total Black Friday online spending could reach between $11.7 billion and $11.9 billion, potentially breaking previous records for online holiday sales in the United States.
The rise in online shopping is set to persist throughout the weekend. Adobe predicts that Saturday will see $5.5 billion in spending, representing a 3.8 percent rise from last year, followed by $5.9 billion on Sunday—a 5.4 percent increase—as online discounts remain appealing. Cyber Monday is forecasted to be the season’s peak shopping day, with expected sales hitting $14.2 billion, a 6.3 percent uptick compared to last year.
Major retailers are currently experiencing significant online traffic, with many having already altered their logistics to cater to the heightened demand. Experts indicate that this transition to digital shopping is a broader trend expedited by convenience, safety concerns, and changing consumer behaviors. Despite earlier predictions of slower growth for holiday online sales, Adobe’s findings confirm that online retail is continuing to capture a significant share of Black Friday expenditures.
Consumers are advised to remain vigilant to avoid scams and follow safe online shopping practices as they navigate the competition and heavy traffic during this high-stakes shopping weekend.
