The San Francisco 49ers delivered an impressive performance just after securing a playoff spot, with quarterback Brock Purdy at the helm. The team triumphed over the Indianapolis Colts with a score of 48–27 on Monday night, marking their fifth consecutive win and solidifying their place in the NFC playoff standings.
Purdy demonstrated exceptional skill, throwing five touchdown passes and amassing 295 yards on 25 completions out of 34 attempts. His remarkable command kept the Colts defense at bay, leading San Francisco to accumulate 440 total yards and not punting for the second week in a row.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan lauded Purdy's performance as one of his best yet, noting the execution of the game plan with notable confidence. Despite a few missed opportunities, Shanahan emphasized that Purdy's control and maturity made a significant impact on the outcome.
Now at 11–4, the 49ers are in the running for both the NFC West title and the best record in the conference. This victory also broke a two-decade, five-game losing streak against the Colts.
San Francisco's offensive depth shone through, with Christian McCaffrey rushing for 117 yards on 21 carries, catching six passes, and scoring two touchdowns. Tight end George Kittle was pivotal with seven receptions for 115 yards and a touchdown, while Jauan Jennings and Demarcus Robinson also contributed to the scoring.
The Colts, led by veteran quarterback Philip Rivers in his second start returning from injury, showed resilience. Rivers threw for 277 yards and two touchdowns to Alec Pierce, who had 86 receiving yards. They started strong but trailed 24–17 at halftime after a missed field goal attempt.
In the second half, San Francisco seized control, with Purdy leading an immediate touchdown drive to extend their lead. Despite a brief resurgence from the Colts with a Jonathan Taylor touchdown, the 49ers quickly responded with another powerful play from McCaffrey.
The victory was capped by linebacker Dee Winters, who intercepted Rivers’ pass and returned it for a 74-yard touchdown, sealing the game in style.
The Colts have now lost five in a row, putting them in a precarious position for the playoffs while the losses helped confirm playoff spots for Buffalo, Jacksonville, and the Los Angeles Chargers in the AFC.
With seven touchdown passes across his last two games, Purdy and the 49ers are hitting their stride at a crucial moment as they prepare for the postseason.
