FIFA has revealed a new ticket option for the upcoming 2026 World Cup, offering a limited number of $60 (£45) “supporter entry” tickets for all 104 matches. This initiative responds to prior criticisms regarding the tournament’s original ticket pricing.
These tickets are specifically intended for “loyal fans” from qualified nations, with an objective to enhance accessibility for match attendance. A FIFA representative asserted: “We heard the concerns, and this new ticket category is a necessary step,” highlighting a consensus on this decision.
UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer supported this initiative while encouraging FIFA to further ensure affordability for real fans. Previously, attending all England matches could cost supporters over £5,000, a figure labeled as “outrageous” by the Football Supporters’ Association (FSA).
The £45 ticket falls under the least expensive ‘supporter entry tier’ and accounts for 10% of each football association's allocation for matches taking place in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Approximately 400 tickets at this price will be available for England and Scotland in group-stage matches.
However, FSA chair Tom Greatrex has termed the initiative a “half-hearted gesture,” suggesting it barely addresses the broader concerns of fans. While Football Supporters Europe (FSE) welcomed the announcement, they feel it falls short of fully addressing the challenges posed by the initial pricing.
FIFA indicated that each participating member association (PMA) will oversee the ticket selection and distribution, setting eligibility criteria to ensure that tickets go to fans closely connected to their national teams. In total, 50% of each PMA's ticket allocation will be in the most affordable range: 40% in the ‘supporter value tier’ and 10% in the ‘supporter entry tier,’ with the remainder split among ‘supporter standard’ and ‘supporter premier’ tiers.
This adjustment reflects FIFA's recognition of fan feedback and marks a step toward creating a more accessible World Cup experience, while ensuring that loyal supporters are acknowledged with structured allocation.
