Cadillac’s entry into Formula One for the 2026 season signifies a pivotal moment for American motorsport. Team CEO Dan Towriss emphasized that the organization's participation in F1 is about more than just racing; it's a strategy to elevate the U.S. presence on the international sports stage. He noted that this development coincides with significant global events like the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Towriss shared his insights during the Las Vegas Grand Prix weekend, highlighting that Formula One symbolizes “innovation at the highest level.” With General Motors backing this initiative, the U.S. is poised to claim a strong foothold in this elite competition. He expressed aspirations for Cadillac to be regarded as “that American team” that fans can rally behind with enthusiasm.
Officially joining the Formula One grid as the 11th team in 2026, Cadillac has secured Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas as its drivers, generating excitement among supporters in both the U.S. and Mexico. Remarkably, Cadillac will be only the second U.S.-flagged team in the sport, alongside Haas.
The team plans to establish two significant operational bases—one in Silverstone, England, and a new facility in Fishers, Indiana. This international framework is designed to facilitate efficient car development and testing. Towriss remarked that the initiative has sparked a strong sense of national pride, with fans already expressing interest in team merchandise and sharing personal anecdotes about their long-standing connections to Cadillac.
Commercial traction for the team has surged, particularly with Perez's signing, attracting interest from sponsors in both the U.S. and Mexico. Towriss described market reactions as “beyond expectations,” indicating robust support for a new American-backed team in Formula One.
Nonetheless, as the team sets out from scratch, Towriss candidly acknowledged the possibility of a slow start. He quipped, “Are we going to be last? Why wouldn’t we be last?” Yet, he reassured that the key focus is on the pace of improvement in the ensuing years.
Cadillac has articulated a clear long-term vision, aspiring to achieve podium finishes and race wins within five years of entering the competition. Towriss stated that the choice between utilizing a Ferrari engine or a future Cadillac-engineered engine will not distract from their commitment to steady progress towards excellence.
Towriss also endorsed Formula One’s fresh U.S. broadcast partnership with Apple. He noted plans for collaborations with prominent American sports leagues such as Major League Baseball and the NBA to enhance Formula One's reach among fans more inclined towards traditional American sports.
In conclusion, entering Formula One is just the start for Cadillac. The organization aims to evolve into a formidable and competitive team that embodies U.S. representation on the global stage. As Towriss articulated, “We didn’t strive to enter Formula One merely to arrive. That wasn’t the goal; it was the inception of something greater.”
