Saudi Crafts and Al-Sadu Weaving Showcased at Camel Festival

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture’s pavilion at the tenth annual King Abdulaziz Camel Festival in Al-Sayahid has attracted visitors with handcrafted items, traditional al-sadu weaving, and heritage garments that reflect the richness of Saudi culture. Artisan Helail bin Rizqallah Al-Harthi shared with SPA that he has practiced this craft for nearly 30 years, focusing on embroidery and weaving using pure silk and goat-hair threads.

Al-Harthi praised the country’s continued efforts to support and preserve heritage and noted the growing interest in traditional handmade products in recent years. He also thanked the ministry for providing a platform to showcase national heritage crafts.

The SPA team also spoke with Munirah Al-Rabeeah, a trainer and specialist in traditional attire, who has recreated historical outfits inspired by famous Saudi women, including Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman and Ghaliyya Al-Bogammiah. Her work includes items such as the striped Najdi mutaffat, Taif’s mubaqar, Hijazi mussaddah, men’s daglah, and women’s egal, among others.

Visitors to the pavilion can see a wide range of traditional creations, from garments and weaving works to cultural artifacts, handicrafts, and creative artwork that highlight Saudi heritage in multiple dimensions. The festival provides a platform to celebrate and preserve the country’s authentic cultural identity.

The ministry’s pavilion has become a central attraction, drawing crowds eager to learn about Saudi Arabia’s traditional arts, craft techniques, and the dedication of artisans who keep these cultural practices alive for future generations.
