Canada Demands Immediate Ceasefire in Lebanon

Post by : Shweta

In light of escalating tensions in Lebanon, Canada has demanded an immediate ceasefire and enhanced civilian protection. Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand issued a statement underscoring the necessity of adhering to international law and safeguarding civilians amidst the conflict.

The statement called for Israel to honor Lebanon's territorial integrity while urging Hezbollah to disarm in accordance with the directives of the Lebanese government. Canada called for both parties to agree to a permanent ceasefire to avert further violence and protect lives.

Minister Anand condemned the recent Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon, particularly those targeting Beirut that resulted in civilian fatalities and significant infrastructural damage. Simultaneously, she denounced Hezbollah’s attacks on Israel as reckless and detrimental to civilian safety.

Canada reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Lebanese government in reestablishing its authority within its borders, which includes addressing armed factions like Hezbollah, labeled a terrorist organization by Canada, in pursuit of long-lasting stability.

Furthermore, the statement emphasized the critical need for a diplomatic resolution to ongoing tensions. Canada called for renewed international collaboration to foster a lasting and peaceful settlement, while insisting on the respect for Lebanon's sovereignty and integrity.

These remarks reflect Canada’s comprehensive stance on the issue, centering on de-escalation, the protection of civilians, and the importance of dialogue for resolving regional conflicts.
