Celina Jaitly Appeals for Brother's Release from UAE Detention

Post by : Meena Hassan

Actress Celina Jaitly has made a poignant public call for her brother, Major (Rtd.) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly, who has faced detention in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for more than a year. Celina, known for her advocacy on various issues, shared an emotional message on social media, expressing her distress while urging the Indian government to intervene and secure her brother’s return.

Celina’s Heartfelt Message

Accompanying a photo of her brother in military gear, she expressed, “#mybrotherandme : My Dumpy, I wish you’re holding up, know that I’m steadfastly supporting you, every night has been a tearful one without you, I’d sacrifice anything for you, you’re irreplaceable to me, I’ve sought every possible avenue, I pray God extends his kindness to us, my bhai, waiting for your return…”

Her emotional narrative has resonated broadly, drawing responses of support from fans and fellow industry members alike, who have conveyed their prayers for her brother's safety.

Delhi High Court’s Response

Her plea surfaced just after the Delhi High Court requested the Central Government to file a report on Major (Rtd.) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly’s situation within a month.

Celina has sought legal and medical support for her brother through Indian authorities. The court's interim directives include appointing a nodal officer to facilitate communication between the family and the detained officer, ensuring that he gains access to legal representation and necessary medical care.

Continued Advocacy for Justice

In a previous post, Celina articulated her relentless quest for answers this past year. She stated, “For one year, I've sought clarity for you, and now I continue to pray to that esteemed government to secure your safe return. I trust solely in the Government of India, aware they will strive for this fourth-generation soldier, the descendant of war veterans, who dedicated his entire youth to serving our nation, recognized with the COAS Commendation for Gallantry.”

Her words poignantly capture her personal turmoil and unwavering faith in the government’s ability to provide diplomatic intervention and justice for her brother.

Legal Representation Updates

Represented by attorneys Raghav Kacker and Madhav Agarwal, Celina’s petition emphasizes the critical nature of ensuring her brother's safety and upholding his rights as per international norms.

The legal representatives divulged to the court that Major Jaitly has been held in detention in Abu Dhabi for over 14 months without adequate legal or medical support.

The court was informed that a nodal officer is working to enhance communication between the family and the detained individual while ensuring he receives effective legal assistance. The legal team underscored that these measures could enhance bilateral relations and guarantee humane treatment of Indian nationals detained abroad.

Major (Rtd.) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly, a commendable figure in the Indian Army’s special forces, was in the UAE for professional commitments prior to being detained under ambiguous circumstances. The specifics regarding his detention and the underlying reasons have not been publicly disclosed.

His family contends that he was unlawfully apprehended and has been deprived of due process. Celina has consistently implored the government to step in and facilitate his release, emphasizing his status as a fourth-generation soldier and a recipient of gallantry honors who served the country selflessly.

Upcoming Court Hearing

The Delhi High Court has scheduled the next hearing for December 4, where the Central Government is anticipated to present a comprehensive report outlining measures taken to ensure Major Jaitly’s safety and facilitate his release.

The court has mandated that updates are relayed to Celina and her family through the designated nodal officer, maintaining a transparent communication flow regarding the case’s progress.

Public Empathy and Support

Celina Jaitly’s heartfelt messages have sparked widespread concern and compassion throughout her follower base, her film industry peers, and the armed forces community. Numerous individuals have commended her resilience, urging the Indian government to amplify its diplomatic initiatives for her brother’s release.

The actress frequently speaks of her profound admiration for the Indian Army, having been raised within a lineage of military officers. Her public declarations mirror her emotional bond with her brother alongside her steadfast belief in the nation’s systems to ensure justice.

Focus on Diplomatic Efforts

As legal discussions move forward, eyes remain on the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, poised to play a vital role in dialogues with UAE officials. The forthcoming weeks will likely be pivotal in shaping the trajectory of endeavors to reinstate Major (Rtd.) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly back to Indian soil.
