FSF Voices Concerns Ahead of AFCON Final in Morocco

Post by : Meena Hassan

The Senegal Football Federation (FSF) has raised significant issues regarding the situation of its national team in Morocco in advance of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final against the host nation.

In a statement released early Saturday, the FSF pointed out deficiencies in security upon the team's arrival in Rabat, inadequate accommodation, training facility issues, and a limited number of tickets available for Senegalese supporters.

The federation called on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and local event organizers to respond swiftly in order to ensure fair treatment and appropriate security for this prestigious continental tournament.

Following a train journey from Tangier to Rabat on Friday, the Senegal squad reportedly faced what the federation termed a “pronounced lack of adequate security,” resulting in overcrowding and unnecessary risks.

The FSF mentioned that it had to file a formal complaint to obtain satisfactory hotel accommodations, but specifics regarding the initial lodging conditions were not revealed.

Additionally, the federation rejected the proposal of using the Mohammed VI Complex for their training, where Morocco's team has been stationed during the tournament, citing fairness concerns. Training arrangements for Senegal remain unspecified.

Concerns were also expressed over ticket sales, as Senegal could only acquire 2,850 tickets—termed “insufficient” considering the high demand and restrictions affecting Senegalese fans.

The final is set for the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, which has a capacity of 69,500. With Morocco seeking to end a 50-year title drought and Senegal, the 2021 champions, aiming for their second AFCON title, fan support will be pivotal.

The FSF publicized its grievances to encourage transparency and safeguard the interests of its national team ahead of this significant football event.
