De De Pyaar De 2 Launches with Mixed Box Office Reception

Post by : Meena Hassan

Ajay Devgn’s eagerly awaited sequel, De De Pyaar De 2, debuted in theaters on Friday, starring alongside Rakul Preet Singh, R. Madhavan, and Meezaan Jafri in key roles. Directed by Anshul Sharma and written by Luv Ranjan and Tarun Jain, the film received mixed reviews on its opening day at the box office.

Initial reports indicate that De De Pyaar De 2 earned around Rs 8.5 crore on its first day. While this figure is modest compared to the original's Rs 9.11 crore debut in 2019, it does exceed the first-day earnings of Son of Sardaar 2, which started at Rs 7.5 crore. In contrast, the original Son of Sardaar (2012) had a stronger opening at Rs 10.7 crore, reflecting the diverse outcomes of sequels in Devgn's recent film history.

Among Devgn’s releases for 2024, Raid 2 stands as the top opener. This film, helmed by Raj Kumar Gupta and featuring Riteish Deshmukh, garnered Rs 19.25 crore on its opening day—almost double the Rs 10.04 crore earned by the first Raid.

In addition to the lead pair, De De Pyaar De 2 includes a cast of notable actors such as Javed Jaafery, Ishita Dutta, and Gautami Kapoor. Devgn and Madhavan, last seen in Vikas Bahl’s Shaitaan, previously starred in a successful film that opened at Rs 14.75 crore and eventually grossed Rs 147 crore locally. Released across over 5,100 shows nationwide, the sequel aims to capture the allure of its predecessor while reaching a broader audience.

While the film's initial figures indicate a tepid start, its performance over the weekend and following days will be crucial in assessing whether De De Pyaar De 2 can sustain success at the box office. With its strong cast, engaging narrative, and sequel dynamics, the film has the potential to draw in viewers despite the cool reception so far.
