De De Pyaar De 2 Achieves ₹34.75 Crore Over Opening Weekend

Post by : Meena Hassan

Anshul Sharma’s family dramedy De De Pyaar De 2 has brought together Ajay Devgn and R Madhavan once again following last year's success with Shaitaan. The film experienced its best day on Sunday, earning ₹13.75 crore at the domestic box office, which was a significant rise from Saturday's ₹12.25 crore, indicating a strong recovery of 40% from its opening day collection of ₹8.75 crore.

The film concluded its first weekend with an impressive ₹34.75 crore in India, outperforming the ₹24.75 crore debut of Son of Sardaar 2 earlier this year. However, despite this solid opening, the latter ultimately garnered a total of ₹46.82 crore after being overshadowed by Saiyaara, which premiered shortly before.

While De De Pyaar De 2 has outperformed some recent sequels featuring Devgn, it still falls behind the original film, which debuted at ₹39 crore (including paid previews) in 2019 and ultimately exceeded ₹100 crore, closing at ₹104.13 crore. It remains to be seen if the sequel can reach that significant milestone. Even if it surpasses the ₹100 crore mark, it is unlikely to outdo Devgn's top performer of the year, Raid 2, which accumulated ₹173.05 crore and eclipsed the first film in its series.

The film's performance is also notably lesser than the previous collaboration of Devgn and Madhavan, Shaitaan, which earned ₹54 crore in its opening weekend and eventually achieved ₹148 crore during its theatrical run.

Looking ahead, the film faces potential hurdles with a slate of new releases approaching, such as 120 Bahadur, Mastii 4, Tere Ishk Mein, Gustaakh Ishq, and Dhurandhar. The increased competition may impact the film's box office sustainability.
