Deepika Padukone Discusses Career Reflections and Future Films

Post by : Meena Hassan

Deepika Padukone has become a prominent figure in Indian cinema over her 18-year journey. Since her debut in Om Shanti Om, she has appeared in several landmark films, including the pan-India hit Kalki 2898 AD. While many of her projects have met with commercial success, some were less favored by audiences and critics alike. In an open discussion, she reflected on her past choices and the lessons learned over her career.

Discussing her current method of project selection, she stated: “Authenticity is my utmost priority. If something doesn’t feel genuine to me, it’s a no-go. Some may offer substantial financial incentives, but that doesn't suffice. Conversely, a project might not be a financial giant, yet I believe in its message or people behind it, and I support it wholeheartedly,” she articulated.

Deepika admitted that she didn’t always have such clarity in her early career, saying, “Was I this decisive before? Probably not. Now, I have that clarity. I do sometimes think back on my decisions and wonder, ‘What was I thinking?’ That’s a part of growth. In another decade, I might question some of today’s choices, but as of now, they resonate as truthful,” she noted.

With 33 films under her belt across nearly two decades, Deepika has solidified her position as a leading actress in Bollywood, showcasing a blend of blockbuster successes and critically acclaimed performances while also taking creative risks.

Currently, she has two significant projects in the pipeline. She will play a supporting role in Shah Rukh Khan’s anticipated action film King, directed by Siddharth Anand, which is set for an April 2026 release, featuring a stellar cast including Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, and Rani Mukerji. Additionally, she is set to work with director Atlee on an untitled film starring Allu Arjun, tentatively named AA22xA6, slated for 2027.

These upcoming ventures signify Deepika’s ongoing growth in the Indian film landscape, blending popular appeal with her individual artistic vision.
