Deepika Padukone Prioritizes Storytelling Over Blockbuster Films

Post by : Meena Hassan

In 2025, Deepika Padukone has undergone significant changes in her film career. After initially committing to two high-profile pan-India films, she recently made public exits. She departed from director Sandeep Reddy Vanga's film Spirit and was later dropped from the sequel of Kalki 2898 AD, directed by Nag Ashwin.

The 2024 hit Kalki 2898 AD, which featured Deepika alongside Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan, prompted media speculation regarding her exit. This change became especially noteworthy as it was reported that she requested shorter working hours due to her new role as a mother, leading to her replacement by Triptii Dimri in Spirit.

In a recent discussion, Deepika expressed that the allure of big-budget movies has diminished for her. “Because honestly, how much more fame, how much more success, how much more money? At this stage, it’s not about that anymore. It’s not even about ₹100-crore films, or the ₹500-₹600 crore ones,” she stated.

Instead of pursuing large-scale projects, Deepika is now channeling her energy into storytelling and empowering creative talent. “What excites me is empowering other talent. My team and I are now focused on that—enabling storytelling and supporting other creative minds, writers, directors, and even new producers. That’s what feels meaningful to me now,” she shared.

While distancing herself from certain prominent films, Deepika is still set to star in two significant upcoming projects. She will reunite with Shah Rukh Khan for King, directed by Siddharth Anand, featuring Suhana Khan, expected to release in 2026. Additionally, she will share the screen with Allu Arjun in Atlee’s yet-to-be-titled film, presently known as AA22xA6, projected for 2027.
