Bangladesh Women’s Cricket Series in India Delayed

The planned tour of India by the Bangladesh women’s cricket team, which included three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three T20Is slated for December, has been postponed indefinitely. A representative from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the postponement to ESPNcricinfo, stating that they received notification from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding the need to reschedule.

While no specific reason was disclosed for the delay, sources indicate that escalating political tensions between India and Bangladesh likely influenced the decision.

This series was part of the International Cricket Council (ICC)’s Future Tours Programme and was set to be India's last competitive series before the 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL). For Bangladesh, it was a crucial opportunity to enhance their experience in the Women’s ODI Championship and prepare for key upcoming tournaments.

The matches were meant to take place in Kolkata and Cuttack, providing both teams a chance to evaluate their line-ups ahead of future international dates.

Earlier this year, the Indian men's team’s planned white-ball tour to Bangladesh, scheduled for August 2025, faced similar postponements, now set for September 2026 following dialogues between the two cricket boards. This adjustment was made in light of international cricket engagements and scheduling feasibility for both nations.

At that time, the BCCI remarked, “This decision has been reached following discussions between the two boards, considering international cricket commitments and convenience in scheduling. The BCB is excited to host India in September 2026, and details for the revised tour will be shared in due course.”

The halt of the Bangladesh women’s tour has implications for both teams' preparation ahead of significant competitions. India intended to use these matches as a warm-up for the WPL, creating an avenue for players to solidify their form and team combinations, while Bangladesh misses the chance to compete against a formidable side in valuable match situations, potentially impacting their future ICC standings.

Despite the unforeseen delay, both boards remain dedicated to rescheduling the series at a later date. Players from both teams are expected to maintain their training and readiness for the confirmed dates once they are relayed.

The BCB and BCCI have promised that updated dates for the postponed women’s series will be disclosed later.
