OpenAI Hires Denise Dresser as Its First Chief of Revenue

OpenAI Hires Denise Dresser as Its First Chief of Revenue

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

OpenAI has appointed Denise Dresser, the CEO of Slack, as its first-ever chief of revenue. The company said her role will focus on building global revenue plans and helping more companies use AI in their daily operations. This move is seen as a strong signal to investors that OpenAI is committed to turning its AI success into long-term profit.

Dresser worked at Salesforce for more than 10 years and played a key part in integrating Slack after Salesforce bought the platform for $27.7 billion in 2020. Salesforce thanked her for her leadership, while Slack’s product chief Rob Seaman will temporarily take over her duties.

The decision comes at a time when OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has urged employees to improve ChatGPT following rising competition in the AI industry. ChatGPT, launched just three years ago, quickly became popular and now has more than 800 million weekly users. However, even with a valuation of $500 billion, OpenAI is not yet profitable and has over $1 trillion in financial commitments to cloud and chip partners such as Oracle and Nvidia.

The company earns money mainly through paid ChatGPT subscriptions, while most users still rely on the free version. OpenAI also introduced its own web browser, Atlas, in October to compete with Google Chrome. Unlike Google, OpenAI has not started selling ads on ChatGPT, which has increased investor concerns about future revenue and the possibility of an AI market bubble.

With Dresser now leading OpenAI’s revenue strategy, the company hopes to strengthen its business model, expand global partnerships, and bring more stability to its fast-growing technology operations.
