Post by : Bianca Haleem

Dubai, UAE – HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), inaugurated the Project Management Training Centre at DEWA’s Campus for Occupational and Academic Development in Al Hudaiba. This centre, officially accredited by the Project Management Institute (PMI), aims to provide high-quality training programs to employees from government entities, private companies, DEWA subsidiaries, and members of the public. The centre’s opening builds on DEWA’s history of successful internal training courses and reflects its commitment to excellence in project management.

A Vision for Global Leadership in Project Management

Speaking at the inauguration, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer highlighted the role of visionary leadership in Dubai’s success. He said, “Thanks to the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Dubai has become a global role model in implementing major projects with the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and sustainability.”

He explained that rapid technological advancements have made project management more important than ever. Effective project management is now a critical factor in enhancing competitiveness, supporting sustainable growth, and achieving the strategic objectives of organisations.

The Importance of Structured Project Management

Al Tayer elaborated on how structured project management contributes to success. “A scientific and structured approach to planning, implementation, and follow-up ensures a perfect balance between quality, time, and cost,” he said.

He added that strong project management skills make organisations more resilient in addressing challenges and adapting to changes. These skills also encourage innovation and help leaders make better, data-driven decisions.

He emphasized that DEWA’s partnership with PMI allows employees to gain advanced knowledge in project management, covering all important aspects from planning to execution, in line with the highest international standards.

“We are proud to now extend these training opportunities to employees of government and private organisations, as well as the public,” Al Tayer said.

Achievements in Project Management Certifications

Dr Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources at DEWA, shared impressive statistics regarding DEWA’s achievements in project management training.

By the end of 2024:

  • A total of 280 DEWA employees had earned the prestigious Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

  • An additional 120 professionals had achieved other PMI certifications, reflecting DEWA’s strong commitment to professional development.

He said that DEWA has consistently led the way in training and development within Dubai.

DEWA: A Pioneer in Project Management Training

DEWA has a long-standing history of excellence in project management. The organisation was the first Dubai Government entity to become a certified training partner for PMI in 2010. This certification allows DEWA to conduct accredited project management courses and grant internationally recognized credentials.

The new Project Management Training Centre expands DEWA’s capacity to train more professionals, not only within DEWA but also across government bodies and private sector organisations. It will offer advanced programs designed to strengthen project management skills, helping participants lead projects successfully while maintaining the highest quality standards.

Opportunities for Government and Private Sector Employees

The centre is open to employees of:

  • Government organisations

  • Private companies

  • DEWA subsidiaries

  • The public

This ensures a wide-reaching impact, helping professionals across Dubai and the UAE enhance their skills in project planning, execution, and monitoring. The training programs will focus on practical knowledge, enabling participants to apply project management principles in real-world scenarios.

Global Standards and Advanced Learning

The courses offered at the centre are based on internationally recognized standards set by the PMI. Participants will gain insights into:

  • Project planning and scheduling

  • Resource management

  • Risk management

  • Cost and quality control

  • Innovation and data-driven decision-making

By learning these skills, professionals will not only contribute to their organisations’ success but also help Dubai maintain its position as a global hub for leading projects and smart infrastructure development.

Contributing to Dubai’s Growth and Competitiveness

DEWA’s training initiative is more than just skill development. It supports Dubai’s vision of sustainable growth, technological advancement, and global competitiveness. Well-trained project managers can lead large and complex projects more efficiently, ensuring that every initiative meets deadlines, stays within budget, and achieves the highest standards of quality.

Al Tayer noted that effective project management is key to ensuring the resilience of organisations. With the right tools and knowledge, employees can adapt to changes, overcome challenges, and contribute to innovative solutions.

Continuing DEWA’s Legacy of Excellence

Since its establishment as a certified PMI training partner, DEWA has trained hundreds of professionals in project management. The new centre at Al Hudaiba further strengthens DEWA’s commitment to education, skill development, and leadership in the UAE.

This initiative demonstrates how DEWA is investing in people, knowledge, and the future. By providing structured and high-quality training programs, DEWA ensures that both its employees and the wider workforce are equipped to meet modern challenges in project management.

The inauguration of the Project Management Training Centre by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer marks a significant milestone for DEWA and Dubai. The centre will serve as a hub for advanced learning, professional growth, and international standards in project management.

With this initiative, DEWA continues to empower employees, enhance organisational resilience, and strengthen Dubai’s position as a global model for successful, high-quality projects. Through the centre, government and private sector employees, along with members of the public, will have access to world-class project management education and certification, further contributing to the UAE’s vision of innovation, excellence, and sustainable development.
