Beloved Bollywood actor Dharmendra has passed away at the age of 89, on Monday, 24 November. He was recovering at home following a recent health issue. Survived by two spouses, Prakash Kaur and actress Hema Malini, he leaves behind a legacy through his six children, notably actors Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol.
The film industry has been expressive in its sorrow, with filmmaker Karan Johar, who collaborated with Dharmendra in Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani, referring to him as a “legend of Indian cinema”. He noted Dharmendra's boundless love and positive spirit, asserting that his warmth will be profoundly missed.
Stars like Kareena Kapoor and Kiara Advani shared nostalgic images and heartfelt tributes on Instagram, while filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar remarked on the loss as “the end of an era”, celebrating Dharmendra's humor and infectious energy.
Some of his most notable films include Sholay, Seeta Aur Geeta, Chupke Chupke, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, and Yaadon Ki Baraat. As he advanced in his career, Dharmendra adapted seamlessly to character roles in films like Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya, Johnny Gaddaar, and Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani.
His last film, Ikkis, is set to premiere next month.
