The trailer for Aditya Dhar's latest spy action thriller, Dhurandhar, has ignited mixed reactions among viewers. Released recently, the trailer displays a startling array of graphic and violent scenes that delve deep into the crime-laden world of espionage. While some viewers are thrilled by the intensity, others have expressed their concerns.
Notably, content creator Dhruv Rathee has voiced his strong criticism against the trailer's portrayal of excessive violence. On Twitter (now X), he remarked, “Aditya Dhar has truly crossed a line of decency in Bollywood. The brutality showcased in his latest film is akin to watching ISIS atrocities and branding it as 'entertainment'.”
Rathee further elaborated, “His insatiable greed appears to be corrupting the youth, desensitizing them to violence while glorifying horrific acts.” He has called on the Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC) to take a serious look at this content, questioning, “Is the Censor Board more concerned with kissing scenes than with horrific depictions of violence?”
Dhurandhar stars Ranveer Singh as an Indian spy in Pakistan alongside Arjun Rampal, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, and R. Madhavan. The trailer includes unsettling visuals, such as one where Rampal, depicting an ISI Major, is seen skimming a person alive. Another disturbing sequence features Khanna as a Lahore gangster brutally attacking a man with a stone.
Despite Dhruv Rathee's concerns, many fans on social media remain unfazed by the trailer's violence, embracing the film's dark themes and compelling action. One fan expressed excitement, stating, “The energy and atmosphere are electrifying . . . it feels like a new era in Indian music has begun.” Another fan urged the CBFC to present an uncut version in theatres, tweeting, “What we see in the trailer must be shown in cinemas—NO CUTS, NO BLURS!”
The trailer was unveiled in Mumbai at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre, with key cast members present. With a release date set for December 5, Dhurandhar is already stirring significant dialogue regarding cinematic violence and censorship in modern filmmaking.
