Currently ranked No. 1, Novak Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam victor, has announced he will not be competing in the Adelaide International next week. The 38-year-old Serbian tennis legend shared his decision on social media, expressing his disappointment.
“To my fans in Adelaide, it's unfortunate that I'm not physically prepared to play at the Adelaide International next week,” Djokovic mentioned. He conveyed his personal disappointment, stating, “This is especially hard for me, as I have wonderful memories from winning there.” Having previously claimed the Adelaide International title, his withdrawal is felt deeply by both him and his supporters.
The champion has now shifted his focus entirely to gearing up for the Australian Open in Melbourne. He assured fans, stating, “I can’t wait to arrive in Melbourne and meet all the tennis enthusiasts in Australia.” His commitment is to be in top physical and mental form for the year’s first Grand Slam.
Scheduled from January 18 to February 1, the Australian Open is a tournament where Djokovic has been particularly successful. He seeks to add an 11th title at this event, which would solidify his record victories at Melbourne Park. Furthermore, this win would mark his 25th Grand Slam overall, further entrenching his legacy in tennis.
Although fans in Adelaide will miss Djokovic's presence, the spotlight now turns to Melbourne. Here, he aspires to continue his exceptional career and reach new historic heights. His withdrawal highlights the meticulous preparation that elite athletes undertake, especially ahead of major tournaments where every match comes with significant implications.
