Tennis icon Novak Djokovic has declared he will not participate in this year's Paris Masters. The seasoned athlete took to social media platform X to reveal the news, reminiscing about his remarkable history at the event, where he has secured seven titles, yet did not specify the exact cause of his withdrawal.
In his statement, Djokovic mentioned, “Dear Paris, Unfortunately I’ll not compete at this year’s Rolex Paris Masters. I have amazing memories and great success over the years, especially being able to conquer the title 7 times. Hope to see you next year. Merci.” His message conveyed both appreciation and disappointment regarding his absence from an event that holds great significance in his career.
Last week, Djokovic played at the Six Kings Slam in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, a notable exhibition featuring six elite players. After a bye in the first round, he faced Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals, where he ultimately fell short. He was set to face Taylor Fritz in the third-place match but retired after the initial set, citing undisclosed issues.
Before the Riyadh exhibition, Djokovic competed in the Shanghai Masters, where he suffered a leg injury, potentially affecting his readiness for upcoming events. Regardless of the setback, he made it to the semi-finals in Shanghai, showcasing his competitive spirit.
In 2023, Djokovic participated in just eight ATP Tour competitions beyond the four Grand Slams. He reached the semi-finals in all four majors—Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and U.S. Open. Between late May and late September, these were his exclusive engagements, illustrating a selective tournament approach.
The 2025 Paris Masters, slated from October 27 to November 2, will welcome top players including World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz and No.2 Jannik Sinner. Djokovic's absence opens the door for other competitors vying for the coveted Masters 1000 title. Following the Paris Masters, the ATP Finals are scheduled for November 9-16 in Turin, Italy, where elite players will conclude their annual campaigns.
Djokovic's legacy at the Paris Masters is impressive, with seven title victories significantly impacting his overall achievements. His withdrawal this year marks a notable shift, as observers expected his presence to enhance his ATP ranking and provide momentum heading into the ATP Finals.
While the reason for skipping the Paris Masters remains unspecified, Djokovic's announcement grants fans a moment to appreciate his legacy at the event. Focus now shifts to Alcaraz, Sinner, and other top athletes competing in Paris, with hopes for Djokovic's return in future tournaments, emphasizing his careful schedule management as he balances fitness, recovery, and performance.
