Dubai Implements Front Number Plates for Delivery Vehicles

Dubai Implements Front Number Plates for Delivery Vehicles

Post by : Bianca Haleem

In a significant regulatory change, Dubai is introducing a new requirement for front number plates on delivery motorcycles and e-bikes. This initiative marks a pivotal moment in the oversight of the city's growing delivery sector, which has seen increased activity.

The new regulation will come into play at the end of December, rolled out in phases rather than all at once. This gradual implementation will coincide with the renewal and reissuance of delivery vehicle licenses, easing the transition for firms with large fleets.

Designed for high visibility, these front plates will showcase a gold background with bold black lettering and a special code ‘9’ to denote vehicles utilized for delivery purposes. Vehicles registered anew or renewing their plates will receive a consistent identification number.

This rule specifically pertains to vehicles engaged in commercial delivery tasks, such as parcel shipments, document transfers, and rental services, while leaving private motorcycles and personal bikes unaffected.

Officials assert that this measure is part of a comprehensive strategy to enhance regulation across the delivery landscape, which has surged with the rise of online shopping and food delivery services. Improved identification from both front and rear is anticipated to bolster monitoring capabilities, assist enforcement efforts, and promote road safety.

This initiative follows previous regulations for delivery riders, including limitations on using particular lane speeds on multi-lane roadways. Each of these measures aims to mitigate hazards on congested streets, ensuring smoother traffic for all users.

By enforcing these regulations thoughtfully, Dubai continues to evolve its transport policies in line with the urban mobility needs while prioritizing safety and accountability.
