Dubai’s youngest learners are joining classrooms in record numbers. According to the latest data, enrolment at private early childhood centres (ECCs) grew by 8% between June 2024 and June 2025. More than 29,600 children are now registered in nurseries and centres across the city. This rise marks a strong step in Dubai’s commitment to early childhood development and education.
Sector Expands Rapidly with New Centres
The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) released figures showing that the sector grew significantly during the past year. A total of 38 new early childhood centres opened, bringing the overall number to 312 across Dubai. These centres cater to children from birth to six years old, including more than 2,400 Emirati children. The expansion shows that Dubai is investing in high-quality early education to meet the growing demand from families.
New Nurseries Designed for Emirati Families
Among the newly opened centres are Al Freej Nurseries. These nurseries were established in partnership with the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department. Their goal is to serve Emirati families by combining early childhood learning with a focus on Islamic values and Emirati traditions. This reflects Dubai’s effort to blend cultural identity with modern education standards.
Growing Demand from Families
The pace of expansion is faster than in the previous year, showing that more families are turning to ECCs for their children’s first learning experiences. To meet this demand, some centres have also adjusted their age ranges, now accepting younger children. This flexibility demonstrates how providers are responding to family needs and changing educational expectations in the city.
A Global Mix of Learners
Dubai’s early childhood sector is one of the most diverse worldwide. Children from 163 different nationalities attend ECCs across the city. The largest groups include Indian, British, and Emirati children. Parents also have a wide range of choices when it comes to curricula, with 17 different systems available. The UK’s Early Years Foundation Stage is the most popular, reflecting global trust in its approach. Nearly half of all centres care for children representing more than 20 nationalities, mirroring Dubai’s international character.
Teachers and Staff Supporting Growth
The expansion of ECCs is supported by a growing workforce. More than 2,500 teachers and 2,600 teaching assistants are now employed across the sector. This growth in staffing ensures that children receive quality attention and care. The presence of skilled educators plays a vital role in shaping the early learning journey of children.
Easier Access for Parents
To support families, KHDA provides a digital directory and mobile app. These platforms allow parents to search for centres based on location, fees, and curriculum. This improves transparency, making it easier for families to find the right centre for their child. Access to clear information helps parents make confident decisions about their children’s education.
Early Learning as a Foundation for the Future
With rising enrolments and more centres opening, Dubai is shaping a strong early education system. The city recognises that early childhood education lays the foundation for lifelong learning and personal growth. By offering diverse curricula, cultural values, and access to quality staff, Dubai is preparing children for a bright future.
A Growing Landscape of Opportunity
Dubai’s early childhood sector is evolving quickly, reflecting both the city’s global identity and its local traditions. Families now have greater opportunities to select learning environments that suit their needs. Whether it is a centre rooted in Emirati culture or one following international curricula, parents have more choices than ever before.
Building the First Chapter of Education
The continued expansion of early childhood education centres highlights Dubai’s vision for the future. By investing in this critical stage of development, the city ensures that children begin their education journey with strong foundations. With more enrolments, new facilities, and a diverse range of options, Dubai is offering its youngest learners a promising start in life.
