Dubai Unveils 2033 Strategy to Expand Global Sports Influence

Dubai Unveils 2033 Strategy to Expand Global Sports Influence

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Dubai has launched a major long-term plan to grow its sports sector and strengthen its global position. The Dubai Sports Sector Strategic Plan 2033, announced by H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, aims to make Dubai one of the world’s top cities for sports, events, and athletic development.

One of the biggest goals of the new plan is to increase the number of major sports events held in Dubai every year. The target is to add 250 more major events, which will bring in millions of viewers and participants from around the world. The plan also aims to attract more than 4 million spectators each year to Dubai’s world-class stadiums and sports facilities. These venues already meet global standards and have helped the city build its reputation as a leading sporting hub.

The new strategy is built on four main pillars: sporting events, sports clubs, talent growth, and community sports. The Dubai Sports Council will work to develop these areas to help the emirate reach its goal of ranking among the top 10 sports cities globally. Under these pillars, Dubai aims to expand its ability to host international events, support talented athletes, and encourage more people in the community to participate in sports.

The announcement of the plan also came with the introduction of Dubai’s new sports identity. The new logo represents the emirate’s ambitions and commitment to improving the quality of life for all residents, sports followers, and visitors. This identity will be used worldwide to promote Dubai as a modern and active sports destination.

A major focus of the strategic plan is increasing economic and tourism benefits linked to major events. Dubai expects the sports economy to grow by 80%, with its contribution to the GDP rising to more than AED 18.3 billion by 2033. The growth will come from hosting global sports events, attracting world-famous athletes, and increasing international tourism.

Khalfan Juma Belhoul, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, explained that the council will launch 19 major programmes and 75 initiatives to achieve these goals. These initiatives will support event development, athletic training, community sports, and partnerships with international sports organisations.

Belhoul added that Dubai will focus even more on organising global sporting events in the coming years. Events will span popular sports such as football, cricket, golf, basketball, tennis, and rugby. Dubai will also continue to enhance well-known events that already attract large international audiences, including the Dubai Marathon, the Intercontinental Beach Soccer Cup, and the Professional Football League.

A key highlight of the upcoming calendar is the World Sports Summit, scheduled for December. It is expected to be one of the biggest global gatherings of sports stars, experts, and leaders. The summit aims to discuss the future of sports and strengthen Dubai’s name as the “City of the Future.”

To support these goals, Dubai will upgrade sports infrastructure, improve accessibility, and use advanced technology to enhance event experience and global communication. Dubai Tourism will also work with international partners to promote the city as a preferred sports travel destination.

By 2033, Dubai aims to become a central point for sports tourism, major investments, and innovative sports projects. The plan is designed to bring new opportunities for athletes, teams, investors, and global sports fans, strengthening Dubai’s position as one of the world’s most important sports destinations.
