Dwayne Johnson Discusses the Impact of Divorce on His Life

Post by : Meena Hassan

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson recently discussed the profound emotional challenges he encountered during his separation from ex-wife Dany Garcia. The duo, who were together for 16 years, parted ways in 2007. For Johnson, this split was not just the end of a marriage but also a pivotal moment affecting their daughter, Simone, now 24.

“When you marry, you commit for the long run, but it doesn’t always end that way,” Johnson remarked in a recent podcast. “It was a major shock for me. Plus, we had a child, and I had to reflect—what kind of dad would I become?”

Mental Health and Career Choices

The divorce had a significant impact on his mental health, leading him into a period of sadness. “I was really struggling back then,” he revealed.

This challenging time also directed his career path. Post-split, he deliberately took on lighter, family-friendly roles in movies like The Game Plan and Tooth Fairy. “I wasn’t looking for anything that would tear me apart emotionally,” he explained. “I preferred stories that ended on a positive note—and I thrived on making those films.”

Co-Parenting and Business Partnership

Despite their emotional challenges, Johnson and Garcia nurtured a strong co-parenting relationship. Moreover, they continued their professional collaboration by co-founding Seven Bucks Productions, which has become a significant player in Hollywood.

“Although marriage wasn’t meant to be for us, we realized we were creating something remarkable together,” Johnson mentioned.

Currently, Johnson is happily married to Lauren Hashian, with whom he has two daughters—Jasmine and Tiana. His journey illustrates how personal hardships can lead to growth, resilience, and a renewed sense of direction.
