The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has announced that it has started oil production from a new well called Arcadia-28. This well is located in the Western Desert of Egypt, an area known for oil and gas resources. This marks an important step for Egypt’s oil industry and its efforts to increase domestic energy production.
The Arcadia-28 oil well is expected to add about 4,100 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d) to Egypt’s current oil output. This is a big increase and will help the country meet more of its energy needs from inside its own borders.
New Technology Used for Oil Extraction
The success of this well is due to the use of an advanced technical treatment. The Ministry explained that they used a special method known as acid stimulation. This technique is used to make it easier for oil to flow from underground rock layers.
This method is not new in the oil industry but is now being used more in Egypt. A similar method was recently used in the “Iris” well, another oil and gas site also located in the Western Desert. Acid stimulation is helpful when oil is trapped in tight rock and needs a chemical treatment to flow more freely.
Targeting the Masajid Carbonate Layer
The Arcadia-28 well is targeting a specific underground rock layer called the Masajid Carbonate. This is a rock formation deep below the Earth’s surface that is known to contain oil. Engineers focused on this layer because it has shown good results in the past for oil extraction.
By focusing on this layer and using the acid stimulation process, the Arcadia-28 well was successfully brought into production on July 19, 2025.
A Boost in Egypt’s Oil Output
The additional 4,100 barrels per day from Arcadia-28 is a positive sign for Egypt’s energy future. This extra production will help reduce the amount of oil Egypt needs to import from other countries. It also helps increase Egypt’s oil exports, which brings more money into the country.
This move is part of a larger plan to make sure that Egypt can rely more on its own natural resources rather than depending on global oil markets, which can be unpredictable.
Ministry’s Long-Term Strategy
The start of production from the Arcadia-28 well supports the first strategic goal of Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources. That goal is to maximize local petroleum production. The idea is to make Egypt stronger in energy security and less dependent on foreign oil.
This plan includes finding more oil within the country, improving old oil wells, using modern drilling techniques, and making sure oil production is efficient and safe.
Importance of the Western Desert
Egypt’s Western Desert has become a key area for oil exploration and production. This region is full of potential because of its rich underground rock layers. Many successful oil and gas wells have already been developed there, and more are expected in the future.
The Arcadia-28 well is just one example of how the Western Desert continues to play a major role in Egypt’s growing energy sector. With each new well, Egypt becomes more confident in its ability to produce more of its own energy.
Role of Agiba Company
The success of Arcadia-28 comes after similar work done by Agiba Petroleum Company, which recently made a discovery at the Iris well. Agiba is one of the companies working with Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum to explore and develop oil in different parts of the Western Desert.
The experience from the Iris well helped engineers apply the same successful techniques to Arcadia-28. This shows how one success can lead to more progress across the region.
Ongoing Development Projects
The Ministry’s announcement also mentioned that this new oil production is part of ongoing development and expansion projects. These projects include finding new oil fields, increasing output from existing wells, and improving technology to get oil more efficiently.
Bringing Arcadia-28 into operation is a result of careful planning, smart investment, and technical skill. Egypt plans to keep doing this in other areas to grow its energy output even more.
Better Use of Natural Resources
Egypt is working hard to make better use of its natural resources, such as oil and gas. The country has many underground energy reserves, and with the help of modern technology, more of these resources can now be accessed.
By using methods like acid stimulation and focusing on promising rock layers, Egypt is showing it can compete with other oil-producing countries in the region.
A Positive Step for Egypt
The start of oil production from the Arcadia-28 well is an important achievement for Egypt’s energy sector. It shows that the country is moving forward with its plans to improve oil output and make better use of its underground resources.
This also shows that Egypt is focused on using smart strategies and modern tools to strengthen its economy and provide more energy to its people and businesses. With more projects like this, Egypt is likely to see continued growth in its energy production in the years to come.
