Emirates SkyCargo, the cargo division of Emirates Airline, has expanded its freight operations by deploying a weekly freighter service to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK). The move strengthens the airline’s growing network across East and Southeast Asia and provides regional exporters with improved global connectivity through Dubai. The decision highlights the increasing demand for air cargo capacity in Asia’s fast-developing trade corridors.
The new service enables businesses in Thailand and surrounding regions to move their goods efficiently to international destinations using Emirates SkyCargo’s global network. The airline already operates the largest and most diversified cargo route system among non-Asian carriers. With the addition of Bangkok, Emirates SkyCargo now serves 43 global destinations using its dedicated freighter fleet, including 11 in East and Southeast Asia.
Badr Abbas, Divisional Senior Vice President of Emirates SkyCargo, said the Asia region is central to the company’s long-term expansion plans. “Our operations across East and Southeast Asia are among the most expansive on our network,” he stated. “Markets such as Thailand and Vietnam have become the heartbeat of global trade, driven by their strong manufacturing base, digital innovation, and modern logistics infrastructure. We stand ready to support this growth by providing efficient global cargo services.”
The deployment of a freighter to Bangkok comes as Emirates SkyCargo continues to witness increasing cargo volumes across Asia. High-value goods such as electronics, machinery, textiles, and eCommerce products dominate freight exports from the region. The company’s new service aims to meet the growing needs of exporters and logistics providers seeking reliable and flexible transportation options.
In addition to Bangkok, Emirates SkyCargo has expanded its freighter operations in Vietnam and China. The airline now operates four weekly freighter services in and out of Hanoi, three of which connect directly to Dubai World Central (DWC). The fourth route links Dubai, Taipei, and Hanoi, offering improved access for Vietnamese businesses. In mainland China, a sixth weekly freighter to Guangzhou has been introduced to cater to strong demand for consumer technology and electronic goods.
To ensure consistent service throughout the year, Emirates SkyCargo regularly deploys additional ad hoc freighter capacity during high-demand and seasonal periods. This flexibility allows the airline to accommodate fluctuations in trade flows and support urgent shipping requirements from industrial, retail, and eCommerce sectors.
Over the past 30 years, Emirates SkyCargo has built a solid presence across East and Southeast Asia. The airline now operates in 25 gateways within the region, offering 45 freighter services, 13 charter operations, and 315 passenger flights each week. Combined, these flights provide approximately 21,000 tonnes of cargo capacity, underlining the company’s commitment to facilitating trade and logistics in Asia’s key economies.
Emirates SkyCargo’s continued expansion aligns with Dubai’s broader strategy to remain a global logistics hub. The company’s investments in capacity and connectivity support the global supply chain by ensuring that goods move swiftly between Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas. The airline’s future plans include further route development and technological innovation to maintain efficiency and reliability in its cargo operations.
