Etihad Airways Enhances Fleet with 32 New Airbus Aircraft

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

Etihad Airways has unveiled an ambitious plan to expand its fleet with an order for 32 new Airbus widebody aircraft, marking a significant leap towards its goal of becoming a top-tier global carrier. This order includes an array of A350-1000s, A350F freighters, and A330-900s, acquired through both direct purchases and leasing options, with deliveries expected to commence in 2027—one of the earliest delivery windows for widebody aircraft worldwide.

This initiative comes on the heels of an earlier agreement this year for 28 Boeing widebody aircraft, bringing the airline's total new widebody acquisitions to 60 for 2025 across both Airbus and Boeing. This growth enables Etihad to boost capacity, enhance its international routes, and provide passengers with improved premium travel experiences.

Antonoaldo Neves, CEO of Etihad Airways, expressed that, “Ordering 32 additional widebodies with deliveries starting in 2027 showcases Etihad's proactive approach in securing valuable delivery slots and exceeding global capacity limitations. These strategic investments will propel our growth trajectory, elevate passenger experiences, and draw more visitors to Abu Dhabi.”

Neves reiterated the airline's dedication to the future of aviation in Abu Dhabi, emphasizing that these aircraft orders signify a strong belief in the emirate as a vital global hub. “With 60 new widebody aircraft ordered this year, Etihad is crafting one of the most advanced, efficient, and adaptable long-haul fleets globally,” he remarked.

Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus Executive Vice President of Commercial Aircraft Sales, noted, “Etihad Airways' ongoing investment in our cutting-edge widebody aircraft highlights the strength of our partnership and a mutual vision for the aviation sector in the UAE and beyond. The combination of the A350 family and A330neo will provide unmatched efficiency and operational flexibility, supporting Etihad's long-term ambitions and connectivity goals.”

This expansion comes at a crucial moment as the global aviation sector enters post-pandemic recovery, with airlines vying for modern, eco-friendly aircraft. Etihad's investments ensure competitiveness, sustainability, and readiness to meet the rising demand for international journeys, all while bolstering Abu Dhabi's reputation as a top travel hub.

By claiming early delivery slots and diversifying its fleet with Airbus and Boeing models, Etihad is well-positioned to seize increasing passenger traffic, extend cargo operations, and enhance long-term operational versatility.

The airline's widebody fleet expansion marks a pivotal moment in the UAE's aviation narrative, reflecting confidence in the industry’s future and Etihad's commitment to delivering exceptional service and operational efficiency to its global clientele.
