Top Off-Road Teams Gear Up for 2025 Dubai International Baja

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The 2025 Dubai International Baja kicks off this Saturday, welcoming premier off-road teams to Dubai Festival City Mall, where final preparations are underway at the Service Park. Enthusiasts can anticipate an exhilarating weekend marked on the FIA and FIM World Cup calendars.

This season, renowned World Cup teams will be challenged by several one-off entries, heightening the competition. Argentina’s Juan Cruz Yacopini, who has excelled in the FIA Bajas World Cup this year, seeks to capture his fifth win in just seven events. He faces strong competition from US rider Seth Quintero and legendary Australian motorcyclist Toby Price.

While some celebrated Dakar competitors are not competing for World Cup points, they are expected to draw considerable attention. Toyota Gazoo Racing will showcase two Hilux vehicles, highlighting the competitive spirit of the Dubai International Baja.

This ninth iteration promises a fan-friendly atmosphere, starting with the Hatta Prologue, followed by a revamped viewing area in Al Marmoom on Saturday and Sunday. The Hatta region, known for its dramatic mountains, rocky terrains, and gravel paths, sets a breathtaking backdrop for this event. Nearly 100 crews representing over 30 nations will join, underscoring its international scope.

Local UAE talent is also ready to shine, with Mohammed Al Balooshi leading the motorcycle participants. Having triumphed at the Dubai Baja twice, he aims for a strong performance at his home stage while chasing a third world title. In the quad division, UAE rider Abdulaziz Ahli vies for his third consecutive victory after clinching the last two seasons.

Experienced drivers such as Czech racer Martin Prokop and Saudi competitor Dania Akeel return, providing their expertise and skill to the event. An exciting highlight of this year’s Baja is the introduction of the new Defender project, with two vehicles debuting in Dubai as part of a showcase ahead of the forthcoming 2026 FIA World Rally-Raid Championship. Fans and guests can expect to see these vehicles displayed at the Service Park, during the Hatta Prologue, and in the Al Marmoom zone.

Mahir Badri, CEO of the EMSO, conveyed at a pre-event press conference, “The Dubai International Baja has evolved into a premier event thanks to the commitment of everyone involved. This year’s entry list exemplifies an impressive blend of international, regional, and local talent.”

He further acknowledged the media's contribution, highlighting that over 100 TV channels will air highlights of the Dubai International Baja each day, allowing global audiences to witness thrilling off-road racing.

With elite participants, local talent, Dakar veterans, and innovations like the Defender project, the 2025 Dubai International Baja promises an exhilarating and memorable weekend for all involved. The blend of challenging terrains, fierce competition, and worldwide attention positions this event as one of the most awaited occasions in off-road racing.
