Bollywood star and director Farhan Akhtar has opened up about the protracted delay of his directorial venture, Jee Le Zaraa, which he introduced in 2021 featuring Katrina Kaif, Alia Bhatt, and Priyanka Chopra. What started as an eagerly awaited project evolved into a time of uncertainty as it faced repeated postponements due to cast scheduling conflicts.
After releasing Toofan in 2021, Farhan intentionally stepped back from acting opportunities to devote his focus entirely to directing Jee Le Zaraa. He declined numerous roles, anticipating that production would begin imminently. He frequently communicated his unavailability due to this commitment. As time dragged on, however, the constant rearranging of dates left him feeling trapped.
The prolonged delays had a significant emotional effect on him. Farhan expressed that he felt time was eluding him and worried he had invested almost two and a half years waiting for the project to commence. Additionally, his absence from directing since Don 2 in 2011 heightened his anxiety about public perception regarding his directorial skills. Consultations with a therapist have helped him understand the sources of his stress, though detaching from the project has proven challenging due to his substantial investment.
The announcement of the film's cast initially triggered immense excitement, particularly for uniting three prominent actresses in a road-trip drama that centers around friendship, personal growth, and independence. Yet, synchronizing the schedules of these stars remained a daunting task. Although Farhan completed location scouting and music production, the project faced continuous delays due to the unavailability of overlapping shooting schedules.
Recently, Farhan noted that the original cast might no longer be part of the film. While he refrained from discussing casting specifics at this moment, he confirmed that the film would still be produced. Much of the preparatory work is complete, and he aims to relaunch the project with a new timeline.
Currently, while awaiting a restart for Jee Le Zaraa, Farhan appears in the historical drama 120 Bahadur, portraying Major Shaitan Singh. This film narrates the Battle of Rezang La during the 1962 Sino-Indian War, celebrating the extraordinary courage of 120 Indian soldiers against a much larger force. Farhan is also gearing up to begin work on Don 3 in 2026, featuring Ranveer Singh in the lead role, with the female lead still being finalized.
