Tennis legend Roger Federer is poised to make a remarkable comeback at Rod Laver Arena this January, leading the “Battle of the World No.1s” that will officially commence the 2026 Australian Open. This event marks his first time back at the venue since his retirement in 2022, aligning with the Grand Slam’s notable opening ceremony.
Scheduled for the evening of January 18, the exhibition match will see Federer join fellow tennis icons Andre Agassi, Pat Rafter, and Lleyton Hewitt, providing a spectacular celebration of tennis history.
Reflecting on his Melbourne journey, Federer expressed, “It seems like a lifetime since I referred to the Australian Open as the ‘Happy Slam.’ I’ve had countless emotions on Rod Laver Arena, from the joy of lifting the Norman Brookes trophy six times to the privilege of playing in front of Rod Laver himself, not to mention the incredible love I've received from Australian fans. The victories in 2017 and 2018 hold a special place in my heart.”
This event promises a rich blend of nostalgia, elite tennis, and a heartfelt celebration of fans, uniting some of the sport’s greatest legends for an unforgettable evening.
