Delhi Flights Delayed Due to Heavy Winter Fog and Poor Air Quality

Post by : Bianca Haleem

As winter encapsulates Northern India, the national capital is grappling with thick fog that is impacting air travel significantly. Early morning conditions have resulted in notable flight delays, as visibility drops, compelling airlines and airports to adapt their operations.

On Tuesday, IndiGo Airlines issued a cautionary notice to travelers regarding potential delays attributed to the fog. Passengers are encouraged to verify their flight statuses ahead of time and prepare accordingly. The airline reassured that its operations teams are diligently monitoring the situation to lessen disruptions and enhance passenger experience.

Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport has also reported possible interruptions in flight schedules. While operations have shown some recovery, a number of flights continue to face delays due to the persistent fog. Travellers are advised to maintain communication with their airlines and check for live updates to mitigate any inconvenience. Ground staff are available to assist passengers and ensure the smooth operation of services.

In tandem with the fog, the air quality in Delhi has worsened. At approximately 8 AM, the city recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 378, falling into the 'very poor' category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board. Residents are being urged to limit outdoor exposure, as prolonged periods in such conditions can adversely affect health.

With the combination of winter fog and deteriorating air quality presenting travel and health hurdles, authorities are closely monitoring developments. Both passengers and residents are advised to remain vigilant, adhere to safety recommendations, and stay informed on flight and weather updates throughout the day.
