GCC Unified Tourist Visa to Launch Trial in Late 2025

GCC Unified Tourist Visa to Launch Trial in Late 2025

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The highly anticipated GCC Unified Tourist Visa, officially named the “GCC Grand Tours,” is set to launch as a trial later this year. The visa is designed to allow easier travel between all six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman.

Trial Launch and Digital Application

The trial phase of the visa is planned for the final months of 2025. Residents of the GCC countries will soon be able to apply online through a digital platform. This process will simplify travel for millions of residents who currently need multiple visas to move across the region.

Benefits for Residents and Tourists

The GCC Grand Tours Visa will make travel easier, reduce costs, and likely provide a longer validity period compared to getting six separate visas. While GCC citizens can already travel freely in the region, the new visa will mainly benefit foreign residents living in the GCC, enabling them to move smoothly between countries.

Background and Approval

Plans for the unified tourist visa were approved in late 2023 following a unanimous vote by ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council during a meeting in Oman. The initiative is aimed at boosting regional tourism and growing the economies of member nations by attracting more visitors and encouraging intra-regional travel.

Details on Visa Access

Although final requirements are still being confirmed, it is expected that applicants may choose between single-country or six-country access. The visa could allow stays ranging from 30 to 90 days, depending on the selected option. This will provide more consistency and flexibility for residents who travel regularly within the GCC.

Current Travel Rules in GCC

Currently, UAE citizens do not need a visa to enter Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, or Kuwait. However, residents from other countries living in the UAE must obtain visas for most GCC nations. The new unified visa will simplify this process, ensuring residents can travel more efficiently and without multiple applications.

Technological and Security Preparations

GCC ministers have coordinated closely to ensure the visa system meets global security standards and technological requirements. By introducing a digital application process, the GCC countries aim to make border procedures faster, safer, and more convenient for residents and tourists.

Impact on Tourism in the UAE

The UAE, being one of the best-prepared nations in the region, is developing additional infrastructure and routes to make travel easier. Projects like the Etihad Rail passenger network, expected to start operations in 2026, will connect the seven emirates and improve internal mobility, complementing the GCC Grand Tours Visa.

The visa is expected to encourage residents and tourists to explore different countries in the Gulf. It will strengthen regional tourism, create economic opportunities, and foster cultural exchange. By making movement easier, the GCC Grand Tours Visa will enhance the visitor experience and promote tourism development across the region.

The GCC Unified Tourist Visa represents a major step toward a more connected Gulf region. By enabling easier travel, reducing costs, and providing longer validity, the visa will benefit residents, tourists, and national economies. The trial launch in late 2025 is a key milestone in achieving a seamless travel experience across all GCC countries.
