The Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, has announced that the 49th Extraordinary Meeting of the GCC Ministerial Council will take place today, Tuesday, June 24, 2024, in Doha, the capital of Qatar.
This special meeting will be chaired by Abdullah Ali Al Yahya, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait, who currently holds the presidency of the GCC Ministerial Council. The foreign ministers of all six GCC countries are expected to attend the meeting.
The main purpose of the gathering is to discuss the serious developments following the recent missile attack by Iran, which targeted the sisterly state of Qatar. The attack has raised concerns about the safety and security of the region, prompting this urgent meeting.
GCC Secretary General Albudaiwi said that this meeting is a strong message of unity and support for Qatar. He emphasised that the Gulf countries are firmly standing by Qatar during this difficult time. He also stressed that the peace, security, and stability of Qatar are closely connected to the security and stability of all GCC nations.
The meeting is expected to result in a joint statement reaffirming the GCC’s solidarity with Qatar and possibly steps to address the threat and ensure regional peace.
