Suryakumar Confirms Gill and Hardik Fit for India T20I Series

Suryakumar Confirms Gill and Hardik Fit for India T20I Series

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has shared a positive fitness update on star players Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya ahead of the opening T20I against South Africa. The five-match series will start on Tuesday at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, and fans are excited to see the full-strength Indian squad in action.

Gill had previously missed the second Test and the three-match ODI series due to neck spasms during the first Test in Kolkata. He was briefly hospitalised as a precaution before being discharged. The 26-year-old completed his rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence and has now been declared fully fit to join India’s T20I squad. Suryakumar confirmed during a pre-match press conference that both Gill and Hardik are “healthy and fit” and ready to play in the series.

Hardik Pandya, who had suffered a quadriceps injury during the Asia Cup 2025, has also made a successful comeback. The injury had ruled him out of India’s final match against Pakistan in the Asia Cup and the white-ball series against Australia. Hardik displayed his improved fitness by playing for Baroda in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which earned him a recall to the national squad. Suryakumar highlighted Hardik’s importance, saying his bowling with the new ball creates more combinations and provides balance to the team, making him a key player in major tournaments.

The T20I series will cover five cities, giving cricket fans across India a chance to witness exciting matches. The second T20I will be played in Mullanpur on December 11, followed by the third match in Dharamsala on December 14. Lucknow will host the fourth T20I on December 17, and the series finale is scheduled for December 19 in Ahmedabad.

With both Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya back in full fitness, India enters the series with a stronger and more balanced squad. Their presence adds depth, experience, and confidence to the team, boosting India’s chances in the competitive T20I series against South Africa. Fans and experts alike will be eager to see the performances of these key players as the series unfolds across multiple venues.
