Actor Girija Oak Godbole, celebrated for her role in Jawan, is preparing for her forthcoming web series Therapy Sherapy. The series features Gulshan Devaiah, Neha Dhupia, Seema Pahwa, and Manoj Pahwa, directed by Sachin Pathak. Before its debut, Girija shared insights into filming intimate scenes with Gulshan, emphasizing how his professionalism ensured a comfortable and respectful atmosphere.
Filming Intimate Scenes with Care and Respect
In an open discussion with The Lallantop, Girija Oak recounted her experience shooting intimate scenes alongside Gulshan Devaiah for Therapy Sherapy. She commended him for being “one of those rare co-actors” who fosters a secure and respectful environment on set.
Girija stated,
“Even with all the planning involved, few actors make you feel at ease. Gulshan was one of them. He brought a variety of pillows from his vanity—one small, another big and fluffy, and a firm one—and asked me to choose what felt best. He checked in on me at least 16 or 17 times, ‘Are you okay?’”
She continued,
“He mentioned, ‘If you want to stop at any time, I’m completely okay with it.’ That genuine care and respect deeply affected me. For many, this could be an awkward situation, but because it was Gulshan, I was entirely comfortable. He truly embodies that kind of considerate spirit.”
The Role of Intimacy Coordinators and Challenges Faced
Girija also highlighted the crucial function of intimacy coordinators, underlining that their involvement guarantees transparency and comfort during filming. She noted that comprehensive discussions precede such scenes, enabling actors to understand the process and set clear boundaries.
“The environment is crafted to make performers feel at ease, with intimacy coordinators present. Numerous conversations happen beforehand so that those acting in the scene have a complete understanding of it,” she articulated.
However, Girija acknowledged that even with adequate preparation, challenges may still emerge once filming begins.
“When the cameras start rolling, sometimes you find yourself conflicted about whether to proceed or pause, unsure if it feels right. It’s a complex grey area,” she added.
