Bollywood icon Govinda was admitted to a Mumbai hospital on Wednesday after reportedly fainting at his home. The beloved actor was taken to CritiCare Asia Multispeciality Hospital for urgent care.
His lawyer, Lalit Bindal, shared that Govinda had been feeling unwell before the incident. “He was somewhat disoriented. All diagnostics have been completed, and we're currently waiting for the reports and further assessments from the neuro consultant. He is stable now,” Bindal stated.
The health scare comes just a day after Govinda visited fellow veteran actor Dharmendra, who is recuperating at Breach Candy Hospital. A video circulating online shows Govinda exiting the hospital with a concerned demeanor.
This hospitalization isn't the first incident for Govinda. In October of last year, he sustained a knee injury from a bullet fired accidentally by his licensed revolver at home.
The incident occurred around 4:45 a.m. as he was preparing for a trip to Kolkata. The gun discharged while he was returning it to the cupboard.
Reflecting on that alarming moment, Govinda recounted to reporters, “I was set to leave for a show in Kolkata. It was around 5 in the morning when the firearm fell and went off. I was startled and immediately saw blood. I contacted my doctor right away and was admitted.”
He was released three days later and warmly greeted fans outside the hospital flanked by his wife Sunita Ahuja and daughter Tina Ahuja.
Govinda has solidified his place as one of Bollywood's cherished entertainers, recognized for his outstanding comedic timing, dance moves, and on-screen charm. He gained fame in the late '80s with notable films like Ilzaam (1986) and Love 86 (1986).
His fruitful partnership with director David Dhawan led to numerous box office successes, including Coolie No. 1, Hero No. 1, Raja Babu, and Partner. Beyond humor, Govinda has also showcased his versatility in serious roles, demonstrating his talent across various genres.
With a career spanning over three decades, Govinda has remained a prominent figure in Indian cinema. His most recent film appearance was in Rangeela Raja (2019).
Currently, Govinda is stable and being monitored. Medical practitioners have performed all necessary tests and are awaiting neurological evaluations to ascertain the reasons behind his transient unconsciousness. Well-wishers and fans nationwide are sending their best wishes for his swift recovery.
