The Green Qassim Land initiative from Saudi Arabia has received special recognition at an important international event. This event was the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York between July 14 and 23.

This recognition shows how the initiative is helping to protect the environment, improve the economy, and support the local community. It also highlights Saudi Arabia’s efforts to support global sustainability goals and fight climate change.

A Project Launched by Qassim’s Governor

The Green Qassim Land initiative was launched by Prince Dr. Faisal bin Mishaal bin Saud bin Abdulaziz, the Governor of the Qassim Region. He started the project with the goal of making the region greener and more sustainable.

Since its launch, the project has focused on planting trees, improving green spaces, and supporting eco-friendly development. It is now considered a key part of Saudi Arabia’s efforts to protect nature and improve life for its people.

Global Praise at a UN Forum

The project was presented by Eng. Faisal Al-Fadl, the Secretary-General of the Saudi Green Building Forum, during a special session at the UN forum. This session was led by the UN Economic and Social Council, one of the main bodies responsible for global development and sustainability.

Al-Fadl explained how the initiative works and why it is important. He said it is a strong national model that brings together environmental, economic, and social goals. This balance helps make sure that the project benefits people, nature, and the economy all at the same time.

Planting Over Five Million Trees

One of the biggest achievements of the Green Qassim Land initiative is that it has already planted more than five million trees. This is a huge number and shows how serious the project is about protecting nature and increasing green spaces.

These trees help reduce carbon in the air, improve the climate in the region, and provide shade and beauty to cities and towns. They also help prevent desertification, which is when land becomes dry and lifeless due to lack of plants and water.

Creating Green Jobs and Opportunities

The initiative has not only helped the environment, but it has also created hundreds of green jobs. These jobs are related to tree planting, garden care, water management, and eco-planning.

These new jobs are important for local people, especially those living in rural areas, where employment opportunities can be limited. The project helps provide steady income and skills development, allowing workers to earn money while helping the planet.

Helping with Urban Development

Another major benefit of the Green Qassim Land initiative is its role in sustainable urban transformation. This means it helps cities grow in a way that is good for the environment and safe for people.

The trees and green areas improve air quality, reduce heat in cities, and make neighborhoods more beautiful and healthy. These changes help make cities more pleasant places to live, which supports the long-term goals of sustainable development.

Supporting Saudi Arabia’s Vision

The initiative is part of Saudi Arabia’s wider vision to build a sustainable and green future. It supports several important goals of the Saudi Vision 2030 plan, which includes environmental protection, job creation, and improved living standards.

By combining nature conservation with economic development, the Green Qassim Land initiative is helping Saudi Arabia become a leader in sustainability both in the region and across the world.

Contributions to the SDGs

The project directly supports several of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). One of the main goals it supports is SDG 13: Climate Action, which focuses on taking urgent steps to fight climate change and its effects.

By increasing vegetation and reducing desertification, the initiative helps make the land cooler, cleaner, and more stable. This is essential in places where dry and hot conditions make it hard for plants and people to thrive.

Other SDGs the Initiative Supports

The initiative also supports other SDGs, including:

  • SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation – By improving soil and planting trees, the project helps protect water sources and improves water use.
  • SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth – It creates green jobs and helps boost the local economy.
  • SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities – It supports city growth that is kind to the environment.
  • SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production – It encourages eco-friendly practices and smarter use of natural resources.

An Example for Other Regions

Because of its success, the Green Qassim Land initiative is now seen as a regional role model. Other regions in Saudi Arabia and nearby countries are looking at Qassim to learn from its methods and results.

The project proves that with strong leadership, proper planning, and community support, real change is possible. It is not only helping Qassim become greener but is also inspiring other regions to follow a similar path.

Encouraging Global Partnerships

The recognition at the UN also opens doors for international cooperation. Countries and organizations around the world are now aware of what Saudi Arabia is doing in Qassim. This could lead to partnerships, research exchanges, and even investment in more green projects.

By sharing what has worked in Qassim, Saudi Arabia can help other countries fight climate change and build more sustainable communities.

A Step Towards a Greener World

The Green Qassim Land initiative is a powerful example of how local action can lead to global impact. By planting trees, creating jobs, and supporting smart urban growth, the project helps the environment and people at the same time.

Its recognition at the UN shows that the world is watching and learning from Qassim’s success. This is a moment of pride for Saudi Arabia and a clear step forward toward a healthier, greener planet.
