Indian Student Killed in UK; Family Seeks Government Support

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

A heartbreaking incident has caused great shock in Haryana and among Indian families who have children studying abroad. A 30-year-old student named Vijay Kumar Sheoran was stabbed to death in Worcester, United Kingdom. His sudden and violent death has left his family in deep pain. They are now requesting urgent help from the Ministry of External Affairs so they can bring his body back to India. This sad event has also made many people worry about the safety of Indian students who go to foreign countries for higher studies.

Vijay Kumar Sheoran belonged to Jagrambass village in Charkhi Dadri district of Haryana. People in his village describe him as a simple, polite, and hardworking young man. He had many dreams and wanted to create a better future through education. Earlier this year, Vijay went to the United Kingdom to study at the University of the West of England in Bristol. Before going abroad, he had resigned from his government job two years earlier so that he could fully focus on studying and building a strong career. His decision showed how determined he was to improve his life.

According to West Mercia Police in the United Kingdom, the incident took place early on the morning of November 25. At around 4.15 am, officers received information about a man found injured on Barbourne Road in Worcester. When the police reached the spot, they found Vijay lying on the street with serious stab wounds. Emergency services immediately took him to a hospital for treatment. The doctors tried their best to save him, but his injuries were too severe and he died later the same day. This shocking news spread quickly and caused sadness among many people both in India and the UK.

The police have treated the case as a murder investigation. So far, they have arrested five men on suspicion of being involved in the attack. At the moment, all five are out on bail, and the investigation is still continuing. Another man who had been arrested earlier was later released without further action. The police have appealed to the public and requested anyone who saw the incident or knows anything about it to come forward. They still need more information to understand exactly what happened on that night.

In Haryana, Vijay’s family is facing immense grief. The news of his death has completely broken them. His elder brother, Ravi Kumar, has written to the Ministry of External Affairs asking for immediate help. He explained that the family does not understand the complicated foreign legal rules, the paperwork, or the high financial cost involved in bringing the body home. They are already suffering emotionally, and the pressure of these international procedures has made the situation even harder for them. The family wants to perform Vijay’s last rites in their village, as per their customs, but they cannot complete this process without government support.

Ravi Kumar expressed the family’s pain. He said, “We appeal to the government to help us so that his last rites can be held here.” These words show how helpless the family feels. They are grieving and at the same time struggling with foreign laws and formalities that they have never dealt with before. The combination of emotional shock, financial pressure, and complicated paperwork has made the situation extremely stressful for them.

Local leaders in Haryana have also stepped in to support the family. Sunil Sangwan, an MLA from the region, has written to External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar. In his letter, he asked the minister to intervene quickly and help bring Vijay’s body back to India. He also noted that UK authorities are still examining the circumstances of the crime and working to find the truth. The involvement of local leaders shows how serious and tragic the incident is and how important it is for the family to receive immediate help.

The news of Vijay’s death has deeply affected the people of Jagrambass village. Many villagers had seen Vijay grow up from childhood and knew him as a bright and ambitious student. When he went abroad to study, the entire village was proud of him. They believed he would achieve great success and help his family in the future. Instead, the news of his murder has brought fear and sadness. Many families in the village are now worried about the safety of their own children who are studying in other countries.

Every year, a large number of Indian students move to countries like the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and the United States for better education and job opportunities. Families spend their savings and put their hopes in these children, believing they will get good opportunities abroad. But incidents like this remind everyone of the dangers students may face in unfamiliar countries. When something serious happens far away, families back home feel helpless because they do not know how to deal with foreign police, foreign hospitals, and foreign government rules. Many students also live alone abroad, which makes handling emergencies even more difficult.

In tragic situations like Vijay’s case, quick help from the government is extremely important. Bringing a body from another country is a long process that involves documents, legal permissions, embassy communication, and transport arrangements. These procedures can take several days or even weeks and cost a lot of money. Most families cannot manage these tasks on their own, especially if they come from rural or middle-class backgrounds. This is why Vijay’s family is requesting the Ministry of External Affairs to step in and take responsibility for the process. They hope this will reduce the delays and make the situation easier for them.

As the police investigation continues in the United Kingdom, Vijay’s family is waiting with heavy hearts for his body to return home. They want to give him a dignified farewell and perform all the traditional rituals in their village. The waiting period has been very painful for them, but they are hoping that with government help, their son will return home soon. For the family, bringing him back is the only way they can begin to find some emotional peace after this terrible loss.
