A dramatic new video emerging from the Dubai Airshow has revealed the final moments before the Indian Air Force’s HAL Tejas fighter jet crashed during a flying display. This footage provides an unprecedented view of the fatal maneuver that resulted in the tragic loss of Wing Commander Namansh Syal.
The skilled 37-year-old pilot, celebrated for his accuracy and bravery, was engaging in a low-level aerobatic performance at Al-Maktoum International Airport on the last day of the event, which kicked off on November 17. The Tejas aircraft was among the main attractions, drawing significant international interest.
In the newly released footage, the jet can be seen executing a series of sharp turns before suddenly losing altitude. Soon after, it plunges to the ground, creating a large cloud of smoke and debris. Within moments, flames engulf the crash site, marking a disastrous conclusion to a performance that began as a standard display.
Just a day prior, another clip circulated featuring Wing Commander Syal engaging with dignitaries at the Airshow. He was seen in the company of Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, India’s Ambassador to the UAE, Deepak Mittal, and high-ranking officials from the Ministry of External Affairs. The exact timing of this interaction within the multi-day event remains uncertain.
Wing Commander Syal hailed from the Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh. He is survived by his wife—who is also an IAF officer—along with their six-year-old daughter and his parents. Reports indicate that his family learned of the crash through online sources shortly after its occurrence.
The tragedy has cast a pall over the concluding day of the Dubai Airshow, where the Tejas LCA was prominently displayed as a hallmark of India’s homegrown aviation achievements. As investigations proceed, this new footage serves as a crucial reference, offering deeper insights into the aircraft's final moments before impact.
